Art TherapyCreativity is a powerful and universal vehicle for self-expression and communication. Art therapy uses images, symbols and the creative process to tell our stories, express ourselves authentically, develop insight, release emotional turmoil, experience empowerment, promote self-efficacy, and connect with our inner world.
Words are often insufficient to convey complex emotions, process sensory memories associated with trauma, or describe our experiences, thoughts, feelings, and relationships. By drawing, painting, scribbling, sculpting, and other forms of expressive arts (such as journaling, music, poetry, and movement), an adult or child can communicate, process, and integrate such experiences.
